Rwanda is a home for approximately 700 bird species identified in different types of habitat. There is no pure endemic bird to Rwanda but we have 27 bird species out of 44 endemic birds to the Albertine Rift region all these can be easily seen in Nyungwe National Park. Considering the size of the country, Rwanda has the highest concentration of bird species in Africa. The avi-tourism potential has been over shadowed by the gorilla tourism dominance, lack of professional birding guides. Birding and Educational Tours LTD solved the issue of professionalism in bird guiding and is helping in raising birding awareness and avitourism publication.
The main birding sites in Rwanda include 7 important bird Areas:
The common and migratory bird species can also be sighted around Kigali City Park in Kigali where a short birding trip is organised with people with limited time in Kigali.
Birding and Educational Tours LTD will take you to these and other sites and assist you in birding and provide birding materials when needed. For bird lists and other birding sites in Rwanda and in the region visit African Bird Club.
Rwanda is a nation of sophisticated cultural and artistic history. Rwanda swirls instinctively to centuries-old rhythms of drums, song, dancing and oral poetry. Music is ubiquitous. We take you in villages where you can find spontaneous traditional performances or make a date with the Intore Dance Troupe, founded several centuries ago to entertain the royal court. The Intore are a dramatic spectacle, far removed from the often-lame tribal dancing offered to tourists in other parts of Africa. You can also share the memorable experiences with local communities like preparation of local beers, share local dishes, entertain with local dancers, traditional marriage and buy local handcrafts.
The pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial period history can also be learnt from the Institute of National Museums of Rwanda. At the Museum you can also have other services like traditional dancing, drum orchestra, etc. Rwanda is the one of the countries where genocide has cast a dark shadow over human lives. We let you get all the information on the genocide history from the Kigali Memorial Centre. The Center contains a permanent exhibition of the Rwandan genocide and an exhibition of other genocides around the world. The Kigali Memorial Centre was opened on the 10th Anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide, in April 2004. The Centre is built on a site where over 250,000 people are buried and is in 10 min drive from the Kigali City Center, Visit the Center here.
